Plantation residents have a lot at stake on the Nov. 3 ballot. Here’s some important information about our upcoming election:
- At the top of the ticket is the mayoral race. Nick Sortal is running for re-election and is asking for voters’ support to continue leading the city for the next four years.
- There are also two City Council contests on the ballot: Group 1 (incumbent Erik Anderson) and Group 2 (incumbent Denise Horland), both seeking a third four-year term. In total, voters will make three decisions in this city election.
- All city races are decided citywide. Plantation does not use districts, so every voter—regardless of neighborhood—votes for mayor and each council seat, and each elected official represents the entire city.
- City elections are nonpartisan. Candidates do not run with party labels, though political parties may still publish lists of preferred candidates.
- Voter registration is available at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov. The registration deadline is Oct. 6, which is 29 days before Election Day.
- Voters have several ways to cast a ballot. Early voting runs for two weeks and ends the Sunday before Election Day. Voters who requested a vote-by-mail ballot may return it by mail or use an official drop-off site to hand-deliver it—an increasingly popular option because it allows voters to complete the ballot at home, research their choices, and still ensure timely delivery. Broward County offers multiple early voting locations; Plantation’s site is the West Regional Library at Pine Island Road and Broward Boulevard.
- On Election Day, November 3, voters should check their voter registration card to confirm their polling place, as locations have been consolidated since the last general election.
